How Television Has Influenced My Career Choice

Television has greatly influenced my career choice. I have always been interested in crime shows on TV. Every night, my family and I will gather around the television with our dinner and watch our favorite shows such as The Mentalist, Dexter, Criminal Minds, and Hawaii 5-0. I've always wanted to become a detective and solve crimes, but throughout these past couple years, I've been thinking of careers that sound a little bit more interesting. I now want to become a Forensic Technician. I want to be one of the people who collects blood and hair samples to analyze. It amazes me how a single speck of DNA can be processed and lead investigators to the killer.

I have gone through many career options like a Lawyer, Physical Therapist, and even a teacher, but I wanted a career where I can study things, as well as have fun. I want to be the kind of person who shows up every day to work that everyone can count on. I also want a job that I find extremely interesting. Since I find television and crime shows extremely interesting, I really want to become a Forensic Technician.

When I achieve my career, it will be like I'm living in one of my favorite TV shows!

Upon graduating high school, I plan to go to Allan Hancock College and  then transfer to a Division II and Division III university. I would like to attend somewhere north of California. Possibly Washington, Oregon, or even northern California. Once I graduate, I think it would be amazing if I could work in a large city like Portland. One of my favorite television/ crime shows, Grimm, takes place in Portland! I would also like to find a college I can swim for. I've been swimming for the Santa Maria Swim Club since I was six, and now I'm eighteen.
